What if the line between wonder and fear is thinner than we’ve been told?
We fill our lives with stories of danger, letting fear become the frame through which we see the world. But sometimes, stepping directly into the heart of what we fear reveals something entirely unexpected.
Some time ago, I found myself swimming in the open ocean, surrounded by creatures most would rather avoid: sharks. What I expected was terror. What I discovered was awe—a fragile, electric awareness, humbling and strangely peaceful.
This is a short, wordless moment from that encounter: a prelude to a bigger story about the edge between risk and revelation.
What if the things we fear most are, in truth, the gateways to awe?
If this snapshot stirred something in you, I’ve shared my full personal reflections—what the sharks taught me about fear, presence, and living a life that isn’t ruled by anxiety—in a special Field Note for paying members.
